Former LED ZEPPELIN Frontman Helps Charity
December 21, 2005The Associated Press is reporting that former LED ZEPPELIN frontman Robert Plant has secured $60,000 dollars for a Carefree-based charitable donation that aids nomadic people in drought-stricken West Africa.
The singer previously committed proceeds from a four-song CD released by his current band, ROBERT PLANT AND THE STRANGE SENSATION.
However, the CD sales failed to generate the royalties Plant expected so he made other arrangements.
Plant made an appeal to P-A-R Charitable Trust, a small grant-making organization that agreed to make up the gap needed to build and operate school dormitories for 200 children for three years.
The trust will supplement proceeds from the CD sales to build eight dorms and provide meals, blankets, school uniforms and medicine for students in four locales in Mali.
